2026-09-28Dambakolapatuna was an important port in ancient times and is traditionally regarded as the place where Theri Sangamitta landed carrying a sapling of the sacred Bo tree, a moment of great significance in Sri Lankan Buddhist history. The temple that stands here today is a peaceful seaside place, with a gleaming white stupa and an old Bo tree to sit under.
The temple is about a 32-minute drive, roughly 18.5 km, from Ratnagiri Heritage Home Stay. It is a quiet, uncrowded stop, so dress modestly, bring sun protection and take your time.
