2026-10-09With its white domes and graceful Indo-Saracenic architecture, the Jaffna Public Library is one of the most admired buildings in the city. It was once among the largest libraries in South Asia, was destroyed by fire in 1981, and was rebuilt and reopened in 2003. Today its restored halls and quiet reading rooms stand as a symbol of the city’s enduring love of knowledge and culture.
The library is a 14-minute drive, about 6.0 km, from Ratnagiri Heritage Home Stay and sits close to the Clock Tower and the Archaeological Museum. Dress modestly, keep your voice low and check the opening hours locally before you visit.
