2026-10-04At Muthirai Junction, a golden statue of King Sangiliyan on horseback honours the ruler remembered in Jaffna as the last king of the Jaffna Kingdom, whose reign ended with the Portuguese conquest in 1619. It is a short, easy stop, but a meaningful one, as it puts a face to the story of the kingdom that once made Nallur its capital.
The statue is about an 11-minute drive, roughly 4.6 km, from Ratnagiri Heritage Home Stay. Combine it with a visit to Mantri Manai and the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple for a fuller picture of Jaffna’s royal past.
