2026-10-07Nagadeepa Viharaya is a sacred Buddhist temple on the small island of Nainativu, counted among the most revered places of worship in Sri Lanka. Tradition holds that it was blessed by a visit of the Buddha, and pilgrims have made the journey here for centuries to honour its white stupa in a calm, breezy island setting.
The journey from Ratnagiri Heritage Home Stay is about 60 minutes by road, around 39.5 km, followed by a short ferry crossing. Plan a full day, check the ferry timings in advance, dress modestly and expect to remove your footwear. The island’s Nagapooshani Amman Temple is nearby, so you can visit both in one trip.
