2026-09-24The Naguleswaran Temple at Keerimalai is counted among the Pancha Ishwarams, the five ancient Shiva temples of Sri Lanka, and is linked in tradition with the Ramayana. It was plundered during the Portuguese period in the 17th century and damaged again during the war, and has since been rebuilt and completed. Its colourful pillared corridors and carved ceilings are strikingly vivid.
The temple is about a 27-minute drive, roughly 15.0 km, from Ratnagiri Heritage Home Stay, right beside the Keerimalai Mineral Springs. Dress modestly, remove your footwear and move quietly through the rituals.
